History: Legolas at LotR Wikia.
As not all of Legolas' history is known, I will provide some additional history here, though it should be noted that this is information never specified by Tolkien, though some is implied. This is here because there are some necessary information needed to play him that Tolkien never spoke of.
Legolas is quite young for an Elf, likely only around five hundred years old. He is the only son of Thranduil, King of Mirkwood. His mother, a Silvan elf (who are the majority of those living in Mirkwood), died when he was young.
Personality:
Despite being the member of the Fellowship least focused upon, there are some very obvious personality traits that come out of Legolas. He is certainly brave, being one to volunteer for the Fellowship of the Ring and the very dangerous quest associated with it. Few things startle him, including orcs, spirits of the dead, and other dangers. That does not mean he is incapable of being frightened, however; when he is faced with the Balrog of Moria, for example, it terrifies him to the core.
Even if he were frightened more often, however, he would not be the sort to show it. He has his stubborness and pride, seen most vividly in his early interactions with Gimli, especially going into the forest of Lothlorien. The fact that he must be blindfolded along with the rest of his company ruffles his feathers greatly, and makes him very sour for a time. He also can seem quite arrogant, as he refers to his companions often as children, implying his greater age as intelligence. That, however, could also be seen as a quirk of his sense of humor. The good side of Legolas's brattiness is that he can be quite playful. While in the Misty Mountains, he is the scout in the midst of a great snowstorm, he is chipper and makes jokes about finding the Sun as he runs off to scout ahead. He also jests, especially later talking later in the books with Gimli, making off-the-cuff, amusing comments.
This is bolstered by the fact that he actually treats his companions with great respect (the original fussing with Gimli aside). He is fiercely loyal, especially to Aragorn and Gimli, and also to Frodo. He is willing to continue following Frodo and the quest, even after the perils and losses of Moria, and the death of Boromir, though he was only bound originally to go as far as the Misty Mountains. Later, when Eomer threatens Gimli's life, Legolas is the one to react immediately, threatening Eomer's in return. He also does not act arrogantly after his game with Gimli to see how many orcs they could kill; he lost by a point and admits so openly, and expresses that he does not begrudge Gimli the game simply because he is so happy to see him alive.
Items on your character at canon point: Elven clothing, his Galadhrim long bow, quiver with arrows, a single long white knife.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Being an Elf, Legolas has a number of physical advantages, such as advanced senses (especially sight), above human strength and speed, and incredible endurance. He is capable of not sleeping for days on end, and actually glows a bit in the dark. No, seriously. You could use him as a night light.
His weaknesses include the fact that he is quite prideful, even if that has been tempered by his time on the quest. It is easy to take his jesting as him actually being insulting, as well, as he does not think before he mouths off. He also is afflicted with sea-longing, though that may no longer be an issue in The Box.
There is also the fact he will be disadvantaged in The Box because what is technology, what is this magical speaking box, what do you mean this white thing with the funny holes will shock me if I stick a fork in it?

The sound of waves lapping the sandy shore penetrated Legolas's dreams, drawing him out of the elms and beeches of his mind's eye and into awareness of the world once more. His lips tugged down into a frown as he focused on the sound of the water, the strange, empty echo with which it rang in his ears. Something was wrong, though it took him several moments to realize just what it was.
It came to him all at once. There was no music in the splashing of the water. No sweet whispers of the land far beyond the sunset.
His sea-longing was gone.
If he had thought his heart ached in pining for the sea, it was nothing like having it wiped from his being, leaving a disturbing nothingness in its wake. He felt a sickness in his stomach that rolling to his feet and trying to shake his head clear did nothing to help.
The sight of bars surrounding him, caging him like an animal, did nothing to ease his anxiety. He felt for his weapons, but found his belt empty and his quiver totally gone.
They had fought so many battles to see peace in Middle-Earth. How had it all fallen apart so soon? He first thinks it must be a strike against Elessar, jealousy against the king who had returned from so far. His suspicions only seem more plausible when his eyes have adjusted to the dark and he can see his still sleeping cellmates are quite obviously human, though their garb is strange.
That does not explain the lack of sea-longing.
He pushes that thought aside. There is no time for that now. Who knows how long he has until his companions wake up, and then there is likely to be panic. If he can figure out how to get out of here before they do it would be for all the best.
Stepping carefully between the bodies, feet as light as ever, he begins his search for the cage's door.
